Ministry of Social Justice & Community Service

Social Justice:

The Congregation has selected three primary social justice concerns on which to focus for the next few years:

1-  Peace - global, local, and at home-with a focus on non-violence

2- Health Care Access - focusing on Single Payer Plan-Universal Health and using the Precautionary Principle to affect a democratic process of decision making. Educational and informational workshops are being held on a regular basis, check the church office for more information. (415-435-9108)

3- Community Action - participating with the Marin Organizing Committee (MOC).  This group includes participants from churches and other groups in the county, and meets for discussion and training on organizing for local political action.  The MOC is newly formed, but strong, and will work together for political change within the county to better the lives of those less able to take action for themselves.

Community Service:
A ministry of being and sharing together involves the CCC community in weekly sharing circles; such as Tribal  Elders, Connecting Circles, Healing Circle, Meditation Circle, and Wisdom Seekers.  Along with nurturing each other, these circle groups provide support when members are ill, injured, hospitalized, or in times of sorrow and grief, and may provide transportation to doctor appointments and medical treatments when necessary.

CCC is a site for the Senior Companion Program, providing oversight and training for companions to seniors in the county.  Participants in the program may receive assistance from an assigned companion with various activities, including shopping, meal preparation, exercise, and grief support.

We are engaged in ministry to the wider community by:

  • providing a monthly meal (plus breakfast food and milk) for 50+ people who reside at Mill Street homeless facility in San Rafael
  • serving on a Board of Directors for Hillarita, a low income housing project
  • raising funds for the Heiffer Project
  • supplying Thanksgiving Baskets and monthly food collections for the Marin County Food Bank
  • contributing to The United Church of Christ's special offerings (One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors In Need)
  • supporting the year round Adopt-a-Family program
  • participating in the local ReBuild Together projects
  • supporting various community peace activities
